So I watched Monster Hunter, the new Paul WS Anderson movie and... it's exactly what you'd expect. It's a highly entertaining action schlock with a dumb, dumb, dumb plot. There's some worldbuilding adjacent to the lore of the games it's based on, but it's the bare minimum.
There are some interesting characters that have barely any introduction or screen time. The monsters look great but it's a mixed CGI bag. Looking for screenshots, I realized the entire movie is ugly as sin, with some exceptions of a few establishing shots. The fights are good.
There are a few fan service scenes for whoever cares, but there are also a few scenes that will make you scratch your head in confusion. Overall, it's a fun, action-packed monster movie you can turn your brain off at on a popcorn night.
